Reading and Fund-Raising

Hardly a weekend goes by in Nairobi without people being out on some kind of a walk or run for a worthy cause. You can read the t-shirts: ‘Heart Run.’ ‘Save the Elephants.’ ‘Cancer Awareness Walk.’ It’s all good!

As much as organizations want to raise money through these events, we also want to raise money for missions — and do something of value at the same time. You know: WIN-WIN. (While walking or running are certainly good activities, we are set to do something even more valuable!)

The DMA Bible Read-a-Thon combines two weeks of reading through God’s Word with fund-raising for the work of DOVE Missions in Africa (DMA). Starting tomorrow, July 11, we will gather at DOVE Nairobi and DOVE Kampala daily for the purpose of “the public reading of the Word” (I Tim 4:13). We take turns reading, through one chapter after the next, out loud and through a microphone. In other words, we will ‘marathon’ through approximately 90 hours of Bible reading over a two-week period, reading the Bible from cover to cover.

Everyone who participates is being asked to get sponsors at the rate of $1 an hour for the event. I would be honored if you can sponsor me for the Read-a-Thon. All funds will go to support DOVE Missions Africa. Any donation is welcome, and can be sent either to DCFI* or through the ‘donate’ button along the right-side column of this blog.

Bible Read-a-Thon reports will be sent over this spot: stay tuned!
